Nail Care - Happy Nails - Happy You - Amy Parker

Do you have some time to spare about the health of your nail? Most people do not mind spending huge amounts of money to wear the latest fashionable dresses. They also spend lots of money for purchasing their make up goods, but most do not bother when it comes to spending a trivial some for items related to nail health. It is a fact that few people are wary of the importance of their nails and how a well maintained nail can change the overall look of their fingers.

While we use our hands to perform all our day to day tasks, the bottomline is that it is out fingers that grasp objects, punch in the keys of the keyboard, get wet when we wash anything etc. On each such occasion we end up abusing our nail since it lies at the top end of our fingers. Most people believe that the nail is also a type of bone and it is for this reason that they take calcium supplements when there are any nail health related problems. The fact is that our nails are not a part of our anatomy that is classified as bones. In case you too are misinformed, you should know that nails are not bones but hardened skin cells composed out of keratin, a protein which is found in our skin and hair.

Living cells in our toes and fingers produce nails. When new cells grow, they push out the older ones and these on being exposed to the atmosphere get hardened and form what we know as nails. You should understand this thing first before trying to understand any other things related to nail health. Most people tend to ignore nail health issues and try to cover up their damaged nails by opting in for fake ones made out of acrylic. Not only does this not resolve the problem, but rather it compounds the same.

There are various reasons due to which out nails get damaged and the primary of them is nail biting. Many of us possess the habit of biting our nails when we are stressed up or when we feel embarrassed. Not only does this appear disgusting, but it also damages the tips of your nails. These damaged and sharp tips of the nails can easily damage fine fabrics by extracting threads from it. If you have just chewed on your nail and suddenly have the urge to itch your eyes, can you imagine what the result will be if the sharp nail touches the surface of your eye?

You should use a nail buffer to buff down the edges. Special oils are available and putting a few drops of these oils in warm water and soaking your nails in them makes for good nail health. Maintaining a good and balanced diet also helps you to maintain your nails. You should clean your nails on a regular basis to extract any dirt and grime that tend to get stuck under it. In case you observe any thing out of the ordinary, do not hesitate to consult a dermatologist.
