These are shoes that have no 'breathing' space for the feet -and no inlet for fresh air from outside to get into them. Wearing them causes the feet to perspire heavily, while the lack of air from outside means that temperatures inside them rise significantly. This creates the moist (due to perspiration) and warm (due to lack of air from outside) conditions discussed earlier as being the ideal conditions that nail fungus thrives in.



The thing to do about this cause of nail fungus infection would of course be to make 'ventilation' an important consideration when shopping for shoes, and ensure that you only buy and wear well ventilated shoes.
